Event Title: “Defending Truth, Privacy, and Information Integrity”

I. Details of the event/activity

“Defending Truth, Privacy, and Information Integrity” is the title of the event I attended. The topics discussed here are The Power of Information | Disinformation Today | Knowing Your Biases | How to be #DigiTalino | Data Privacy | and Meta Safety. It was held on the day of September 16, 2023 at 9:00AM to 12:00NN in a Zoom meeting and this is a three-hour webinar and the DICT Regional Office - MIMAROPA organized this event. The resource speaker here is Mr. Allan Acosta Custodio, LPT | ADLP Master Trainer.

II. Reflections the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)

What I learned here in this webinar are the power of digital information in our daily lives, misinformation and disinformation and why do we have it online, how to be responsible digital citizen, and how to protect yourself from online scams.

Let’s start with the power of digital information in our daily lives, they told us the power of digital information is very helpful to us, so that we can quickly know the news from time to time and the Socia Media has become our favorite source of information. And there’s two sides of social media, the Positive (Vast amounts of information, fast to access, local and global, two way – communications, and low cost) and Negative (Unfiltered information, difficult to determine quality, inaccurate and sensational, used to spread hate speech, and manipulate us).

So, this is where misinformation and disinformation come in. Instead of “Fake news” use these terms: MISINFORMATION (Spreading false information by mistake, and includes simple things like mishearing or misremembering details) and DISINFORMATION (Deliberate act of spreading misinformation to cause harm, and done on purpose).

To conclude as a responsible digital citizen, think carefully about what you post and shared online especially in the information that we spread so it should be verify it if it is fact or just misinformation/disinformation. And the best thing I learned here is to always use a fact statement rather than just an opinion because with a fact statement it is undebated because you are giving a fact statement.

III. Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level. (Practical application of learnings)

This webinar assisted me to more knowledgeable when it comes to digital literacy. This is important knowledge especially for us who like to browse the internet and information that should be kept that should not be disseminated especially if it will harm the majority. Always check and verify the information you read on the internet because it might be the one that can harm us

IV. Positive feedback (on the event organization)

Kudos on Outstanding Event Organization: The resource speaker will properly deliver all the important topics that we should learn.

V. Suggestions for improvements to be made/ consider for future activities

Always maintain this flow of the event because the participants will really learn from this execution and delivery of the presentation of the event.
