Webinar 4 - Securing Digital Identity with Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure

Event Title: “Securing Digital Identity with Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure”

I. Details of the event/activity

The title of the webinar I attended was "Securing Digital Identity with Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure." It was held on October 11, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The theme of the webinar was CYBERSECURITY MONTH 2023 "Sama-sama para sa Cyberseguridad," and it was led by DICT Region V. The event was conducted on Zoom and broadcasted on Facebook Live. The resource speaker for this was Engr. Kim Abarientos from DICT Region V, PNPKI Focal.

II. Reflections the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)

The topic discussed here is about the Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI). The Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is a system of processes, technologies, and policies that allows for the encryption and signing of data. Its main purpose is to facilitate the secure electronic transfer of information for a range of network activities. It enables users to have reliable and trusted online transactions.

This also includes the Legal Basis for E-Signatures under the Electronic Commerce Act of 2000, RA 8792 Sec. 7: Legal Recognition of Electronic Documents. Electronic Documents shall have the legal effect, validity, or enforceability as any other document or legal writing.

The resource speaker also demonstrated how to ensure security and validity when providing an E-signature to be placed on the document where we will affix our signature using adobe acrobat.

III. Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level. (Practical application of learnings)

The things taught to us here are extremely helpful because we can utilize everything, especially for the security of our data, particularly the process of adding e-signature with validation. They cannot simply obtain your e-signature because it has verification from you, and it is only valid for the specific document where you placed it.

Going digital is no longer an option, it is the default.

IV. Positive feedback (on the event organization)

Everything that was demonstrated is detailed, and you can easily follow and replicate it.

V. Suggestions for improvements to be made/ consider for future activities

Continuous Learning Series: Consider organizing a series of webinars or workshops on related topics to provide a more comprehensive understanding of digital security, PKI, and other relevant cybersecurity subjects.
