INDUSTRY EXPOSURE TRIP 01 - WISTRON COMPANY VISIT

 Event Title: “Wistron Company Visit”

I. Details of the event/activity

Wistron: This is the company visit we attended on January 11, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, located inside SBMA, Olongapo City. I was accompanied by BSCS 4A and several students from BSCS 4B. And the employees of Wistron welcomed and took care of us to tour and expose us to the inside of their company.

II. Reflections the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)

Here, they showed us the various activities in different rooms or departments of their company, such as the stocks of tools and components for motherboards. They also demonstrated where they repair laptops, phones, game consoles, and other tech devices. They emphasized strict security measures, requiring proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before entering certain rooms, especially in the repairing area. They mentioned that mishandling devices, particularly motherboards, could lead to potential damage.

Additionally, they engage in IoT projects, including a robot that delivers items to another department. This innovation allows them to avoid personally going to the destination and manually delivering the components or tools they need.

III. Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level. (Practical application of learnings)

They mentioned here that while we are still studying, this experience serves as one of our stepping stones to prepare us for the demands of the industry. As our skills are being honed, we are gaining a basic understanding of the workings of such industries. However, they also emphasized that once we enter the reality of IT jobs, such as in a company like theirs, we will start anew from ground zero. We will undergo training to learn and understand the necessary skills and knowledge required for the job.

IV. Positive feedback (on the event organization)

The staff at Wistron were very kind, extending a warm welcome to us as visitors to their company. They took good care of us and even provided valuable tips for us as graduating students, guiding us on potential industries we could explore.

Another delightful aspect was that they gave us their company mug as a token and a keepsake to remember our visit to their company.

V. Suggestions for improvements to be made/ consider for future activities

My suggestion, and perhaps theirs as well, is that we should have at least one faculty member from the CCS department accompanying us. This way, we would have a guide during company visits, providing us with additional support and insights throughout the experience.
